New theory about the origin of the universe on which the scientific community is still not in consensus. Now, Lawrence Mead and Harry Ringermacher, two physicists from the University of Southern Mississippi (USA) have discovered that the universe could not only be expanding, but also ringing like a bell at the same time . The study has been published in The Astronomical Journal.
According to scientists, whose model starts from the so-called “transition time” (between 6,000-7,000 million years ago) , the expansion of the universe is increasing, but not constant, due to the fact that it goes through stages of oscillation made up of phases of growth as by regression phases; that is, accelerating and slowing its expansion .
This mechanism would also be linked to a resonance , a kind of timbre “that has been diminishing and is now very small, similar to the one that would result from hitting a glass and listening to the sound fade”, says Mead.
This time of transition has been repeating itself since the origins of the universe and continues to do so – and will continue to occur in the future -: “now we know that the universe has slowed and accelerated not just once, but up to seven times , in the last 13.8 billion years ”, clarifies Mead.
The discovery, as on so many other occasions, occurred accidentally in the course of other experiments on modeling galaxies with dark matter.
