The International Air Transport Association (IATA) called on governments to ease travel restrictions, after UK test data showed a low incidence of COVID-19 in passengers arriving in the territory.
"This data tells us that we can do better," said IATA Director General Willie Walsh, "Universal restrictions on people are no longer necessary."
The manager highlighted that there is a positive rate of 2.2% among 365,895 tests carried out between February and May, according to the British National Health Service. Excluding passengers arriving from countries on Britain's highest risk red list, the positive rate fell to 1.46%, according to the cited data.
In February, IATA stated that airlines around the world are facing a slower recovery as governments respond to the emergence of new variants of COVID-19 with more travel restrictions.
The organization has also highlighted that the outlook for airlines has weakened since its December forecast and due to increasing travel restrictions. Now he expects the sector to continue losing cash this year.
IATA raised its forecast for total airline cash consumption for 2021 to between $ 75 billion and $ 95 billion, up from the $ 48 billion it had forecast last December.
