Prince William and Kate: move to Scotland?

According to a report, advisors to Prince William’s family have recommended that they relocate to a Scottish castle. Why should she do that?

London (AP) – According to a report, Prince William and his wife Kate could spend significantly more time in Scotland in the future.

Advisors had recommended the couple to move to the Scottish Balmoral Castle – previously a vacation home of the royals – as a source close to the royal family revealed in the “Times” (Sonntag). “They want them to look like residents, not visitors.”

William (39) and Kate (39) recently visited their old university in St. Andrews, Scotland, and several other places in Scotland on a trip of several days. So far, Kensington Palace in London has been her main residence – but during the pandemic, the family of five also spent a lot of time in a country house in the eastern English county of Norfolk.

The background to the plans could be the strong desire of many Scots for independence from the United Kingdom. Prime Minister Nicola Sturgeon wants her countrymen to vote in a new referendum after the pandemic. Brexit has given the independence movement a significant tailwind in recent years. Sturgeon wants to lead Scotland back into the EU as an independent country in the event of a split.

According to the report, the royal family wants to use its role to strengthen the unity of the kingdom. Prince William is considered popular in Scotland. There was initially no official confirmation of the plans from Buckingham Palace.
