The President of France, Emmanuel Macron , has pointed out that the United States “definitely” has returned to the international cooperation framework after the end of the Administration of former US President Donald Trump .
“We have to face many challenges, many crises (…) and for all these issues, what we need is cooperation. And I think it is great to have the president of the United States – Joe Biden – as part of the club and very willing to cooperate, “said Macron in statements after a meeting with Biden in the framework of the G7 meeting, collected by the White House .
For his part, Biden has remarked that these days he has had “the opportunity to spend time with President Macron and meet him,” and that “although there are still things to talk about later, things are going well.”
“I think we can do a lot. America is back. America is back. We feel very strongly connected with NATO, ”said the US president.
In addition, he has cataloged the European Union as an “incredibly strong” entity and that has “a lot to do” with the ability of Western Europe to deal with economic issues and also be the “backbone and support of NATO” .
The meeting between the two leaders took place in the context of the G7 meeting in the English city of Cornwall. Both leaders have stressed their commitment to “deepen bilateral relations and with the transatlantic alliance,” according to a statement from the White House.
Thus, they highlighted their dedication to ending the pandemic, including through the donation of vaccines against COVID-19 to countries in need, as well as seeking formulas to reform the international tax system to address inequalities.
Along the same lines, Biden has highlighted France’s role in climate matters through the Paris Agreement, and both presidents have underlined their goal of achieving ambitious results at the next climate summit, to be held in Glasgow in November.
