The Danish Crown Prince Frederik is considered to be sporty. During a visit to the national soccer team, he promised his support.
Copenhagen (AP) – After playmaker Christian Eriksen collapsed in the EM game against Finland, Denmark’s heir to the throne Frederik (53) paid a visit to the Danish national team.
The sport-loving Crown Prince stopped by the Danes’ training session in Elsinore north of Copenhagen on Tuesday morning to show the team around Bundesliga professionals Thomas Delaney and Yussuf Poulsen the support of the royal family as they prepare for the group game against Belgium (Thursday / 6 p.m.) . He also exchanged a few words with national coach Kasper Hjulmand.
Frederik is known for his enthusiasm for the sport and is among other things an ambitious runner. Just a few days ago he had played in the so-called Football Village in the center of Copenhagen with Danish football greats like Michael Laudrup and also had duels with the former Hamburg-based Stig Töfting.
A total of four European Championship games will be hosted in Copenhagen, including the Danes’ three preliminary rounds and a round of 16. The opening game against Finland with the dramatic collapse of Eriksen was the first European Championship encounter that had ever been played on Danish soil. The most important thing is that Eriksen is doing well under the circumstances, Frederik and his wife, Crown Princess Mary (49), announced after the incident.
