Sex has always been the subject of conversation and debate and is even often a topic of study for researchers. One of the pieces of evidence that emerges from this type of research is the growing popularity of so-called “Kink” sex, which is a general term that encompasses various sexual transgressions, popularized by films such as 50 Shades of Gray . Let’s see next, what is Kink sex and how it is practiced.
What is Kink sex and how is it practiced?
The word “kink” itself is the translation of extravagant or unconventional, so that “kink” sex could be the definition of an atypical sexuality . The expression includes multiple categorizations, which can be BDSM practices (Bondage and Discipline, Domination and Submission, Sadism and Masochism) and also fetishism.
But how far are these practices from so-called regular sexuality? The truth is that experts have several theories in this regard, but the vast majority agree that between the practice of conventional sex , which excludes oral sex, and Kink sex there is no clear demarcation that separates one practice from the other. This is because they consider sexuality to be a continuum that goes from the conventional to the extreme. In between there are many widespread practices such as the aforementioned oral sex or the use of sex toys.

However, and although most sexologists make no difference, the Healthline.com site identified kink sex in 5 categories:
- BDSM : Acronyms of 4 letters that represent 6 different things: Bondage, Discipline, Domination, Submission, Sadism and Masochism. BDSM – writes Healtline – includes an extremely wide range of activities , from gentle spanking to dominant / submissive role-playing, bondage and pain-related games. Despite the stereotypes, according to a research carried out with 1,300 volunteers, including 900 dedicated to BDSM sex, published in the Journal of sexual medicine, BDSM practitioners do not enjoy psychological poor health at all, on the contrary: “they are less neurotic , more outgoing, more open to new experiences, more conscientious, less sensitive to rejection, they have greater subjective well-being, but temperamentally less docile ”.
- Fantasy role-playing games: One of the most common forms of kink sex also involves creating imaginary scenarios. It can be as simple as talking about a fantasy in bed or as complex as dressing up or acting out scenes in front of strangers.
- Fetishism By fetishistic practices we mean the sexual treatment of a non-sexual object or part of the body, which does not necessarily have to be a sexual organ. Common fetishes include feet and shoes, leather or rubber, or assorted clothing.
- Voyeurism and exhibitionism: Watching someone undress or watching a partner have sex without their knowledge are common voyeur fantasies, while having sex in a public place is a form of exhibitionism. “Both are surprisingly common (and outlandish) – writes Healthline – 35% of the adults interviewed are interested in voyeurism.”
- Group sex: Group sex is an act that involves more than two people. And it’s probably the most common kinky practice. According to a 2017 report on sexual diversity in the United States, at least about 14% of Americans (including 18% of male respondents) experienced it in variant 3 and 8.8% in group variant numeric.
With kink sex and its qualification it can be clear to us that in human sexuality, transgression is more natural than we imagine. However, due to conventions and fear of the judgment of others, there are still many people who repress the most transgressive aspects of sexual desire or, in fact, live them in a hidden way, something that somehow clouds this type of sexuality.
Despite the aforementioned, we should never confuse a sexual desire that escapes the conventional or that is a fetishism, with sexual practices that have to do with the fact of submitting someone against their will or those that are illegal.
