Swimming pool roof collapses completely – shortly before reopening

The roof of a swimming pool collapsed completely on Sunday. The swimming pool in Schwedt (Brandenburg) should be reopened in a few days. The shock is deep.

Schwedt – According to the police, the roof of a swimming pool hall in Schwedt “completely collapsed” on Sunday – a few days before the planned reopening of the renovated hall. A police spokesman said in the evening that an area of around 50 by 70 meters was affected, and damage was caused by millions. Nobody got hurt.

The “Aquarium” in the city in Brandenburg is currently closed due to renovation work. The reopening was planned for Thursday (July 15). “We were still lucky, if that had happened on Thursday, there would have been deaths,” the spokesman said.

Schwedt: The roof of the swimming pool collapses completely

Fortunately, at the time of the collapse, no construction work was in progress, the spokesman said. Only two people who work in the swimming pool’s gastronomy and offer take-away sales were therefore on site – they were unharmed.

According to the police spokesman, the renovation affected the swimming pool, not the roof. After the collapse, there was no longer any swimming area to be seen, the renovation work was probably completely obsolete.

The cause is still completely unclear, it said. The building is locked for the time being. The investigation into the cause of the collapse continues on Monday. (dpa)
