No “fare dodging” at HVV: Controversial term will be replaced

Several cities have shown the way, now Hamburg is following: The Hamburger Verkehrsverbund (HVV) is deleting the term “fare dodging”.

Hamburg – The HVV thus joins the transport companies in Berlin, Hanover and Münster, which had previously replaced the term "fare dodging" out of consideration for people who find it racist or discriminatory.

The word "Schwarzfahren" has not appeared on the HVV website for a long time, reports 24hamburg.de. * Now the large stickers that can currently still be seen in Hamburg's bus and train traffic are supposed to disappear. Instead of “fare dodging”, the phrase “driving without a valid ticket” is used. * 24hamburg.de is an offer from IPPEN.MEDIA.
