A clear LCD screen that works without the need for electricity or batteries, using only ambient light . It is the original project that Samsung Electronics has just launched. The first prototype, shown at CeBit 2011, the IT and telecommunications fair held in Hannover, is 46 inches in size, supports Full HD resolution (1920×1080 pixels) and is fully tactile. In addition, the transparent screen would be able to connect, via WiFi, to any laptop or netbook , thus allowing the computer to be operated from the screen itself.
The Korean company ensures that the new device it is working on has different modes depending on whether the ambient light corresponds to day or night. The screen is powered by a photovoltaic cell installed on the façade or in another location where it receives light.
A Samsung Electronics spokesperson has announced that there will be commercial models based on this technology within six months to one year.
