Only 28% of Spaniards participate in social network websites such as Facebook, Tuenti, MySpace and Twitter, below the average for the European Union (35%). Spain is, along with Germany, the Member State with the highest percentage of citizens (69%) who never connect to a social network, according to data from a Eurobarometer released this Wednesday by the European Commission.
Specifically, Spain ranks 22 among the 27 EU countries in terms of participation in social networks through the Internet . Among the users of these websites, 29% connect every day or almost, 32% do it two or three times a week, 18% once a week and 7% two or three times a month. The remaining 14% participate in social networks even less frequently.
Latvia is the EU country where the use of social networks is most widespread (57% of the population is connected), followed by the Netherlands, Denmark and Sweden , where half of the respondents say they are connected. In contrast, in Romania only two out of ten interviewees connect to this type of website.
The Eurobarometer survey also reveals that Spaniards are among the most dissatisfied in the EU because the speed and capacity of their Internet connection do not meet what was promised in their contract . In fact, only 47% of those surveyed in Spain consider that their Internet provider respects the contract, the lowest percentage in the entire EU.
