The technological version of the traditional San Bernardo is here. The Interaction Design Program of the Danish School of Design, in Copenhagen, has developed the “messenger dog” , a kind of suit equipped with technology that is placed on dogs so that, after a hurricane or an earthquake , in addition to looking for the victims, allow them to send messages to facilitate their rescue . The gadget, which has a video camera and an easy-to-use keyboard, sends the messages to a control center from where the exact point (and time) at which they were generated can be located.
Dogs using this device should be trained to sit as soon as they see a victim, in order to facilitate the communication process. Its creators hope that the technology will also help family members to find themselves in these situations , thus avoiding the isolation and uncertainty that many people suffer after a natural disaster when they do not have news to their loved ones.
