The big draw at the Geneva International Motor Show was the Rinspeed sQuba , the world’s first submersible car. This Swiss amphibian, developed by the Rinspeed company, can dive to a depth of 10 meters and has three electric motors , one for land travel and two for moving underwater. The use of electrical energy (with rechargeable lithium batteries), together with the biodegradable lubricants it uses, make it a 100% ecological model.
The vehicle has two seats and an open cockpit, so its occupants must use oxygen tanks and diving suits once submerged. The advantage of the vehicle being a convertible is that it avoids the strong pressure that water would exert on the windows. In addition, the upholstery is resistant to salt water.
