She enjoys her music on stage, but otherwise she doesn’t like listening to it: Singer Shakira doesn’t want to be “the soundtrack of my life”. A new album is in the works.
Berlin – The Colombian singer Shakira is known for hits like “Hips Don’t Lie”, “Waka Waka” or “Whenever, Wherever”, but she doesn’t like listening to her own songs.
“My music is for everyone else, but not for me,” she said in the dpa interview. She even finds it very embarrassing to hear her own music in a restaurant: “I mean, when I’m on stage, I enjoy it of course, but I don’t want to be the soundtrack of my life.”
The singer released her new single “Don’t Wait Up” just under a week ago – the first purely English-language song in a long time. “I don’t decide in a calculable way, it just happens naturally,” she said of the language selection of her songs.
Plans for a world tour
She is currently working on her new album, which, according to her own statements, will probably contain English and Spanish songs. “And who knows, maybe I’ll even sing one in German,” joked the 44-year-old. She has a good relationship with Germany because she connects many friends and fans with the country. As soon as the corona pandemic allows, she is planning to go on a world tour again.
According to Sony Music Germany, Shakira has sold over 80 million records worldwide and won numerous music awards. dpa
