Afghanistan: Taliban plunder embassy – and destroy personal belongings

After the US and other western states withdrew from Afghanistan, the Taliban are now taking over their embassies. They don’t seem to like individual finds.

Kabul – Much has changed since Afghanistan * came under the control of the radical Islamic Taliban *. With the withdrawal of the USA * and its allies, many embassies in the Afghan capital Kabul are left empty.

The Taliban control numerous streets, restructure the administration and establish the “Islamic Emirate”. Fighters from the organization have now moved into the joint building of the Norwegian and Danish embassies. This is reported by the Norwegian newspaper Aftenposten. According to this, 56 Taliban members are said to have moved there. Since this embassy – like many others – had to be evacuated quickly, many objects were left behind on site.

According to the report, the Taliban collected garbage bags full of memorabilia, work materials and much more. They apparently thought a lot of it was junk – including: CDs with Norwegian Christmas carols and DVDs with the children’s film “Kurt blir grusom” (“Kurt is cruel”). The Taliban fighters probably didn’t like this film at all. A photo of someone involved was circulating showing how he destroyed the DVD in his hands. The film was a “blasphemous machination”, it was said. Other photos showed Taliban fighters testing a rowing machine and holding up wooden skis.
