Álex Palou signs a historic second place in the Indianapolis 500

Alex Palou cherished the victory but made history in the Indianapolis 500. The Spanish driver, who led the race for more than 50 laps, reaped the best Spanish result in the American race that Helio Castroneves took. Palou continues to lead the Indycar World Championship, because Álex Palou had almost no right to dream of victory, even though in the previous days there was a feeling that he could do something great. At 24 years old, and already a veteran of the Indy, the Spaniard started from the sixth position with the confidence that opened the season with a victory in Alabama gave him. After the first laps of the oval Palou marched in a worthy position waiting of lap number 40 in which the dance began with the pit stops. There the party began and it began with the Spaniard in sixth position that left him in a good situation for the remaining 160 laps. Palou was taking advantage of the different stops of the first classified until he got to lead the race on lap 79. The joy barely lasted one lap but it was a harbinger of what was going to happen. The Spanish rider continued to occupy the top positions until the last laps, which he reached in the midst of a fight for victory with Helio Castroneves and O’Ward. Palou was making history no matter what happened in Indianapolis. Finally, Palou was second after being overtaken on the penultimate lap, reaping the best result of a Spaniard in the history of the 500 miles.
