Going to work despite a positive corona test? A health insurance company asked. According to this, almost every tenth infected person appears at work.
Berlin – According to a survey, nine percent of corona sufferers appear in the office or at work with a mild course and despite positive tests. 17 percent work from home, another 17 percent stay at home for a few days until the worst symptoms pass.
This is the result of the “Work 2022” study by the Pronova BKK company health insurance company, which is available to the newspapers of the Funke media group. 1,200 employees were surveyed as part of the study in September.
Eight percent then decide what is going on at work. 33 percent of those surveyed stay at home with a mild course of the corona virus until they are healthy again. 16 percent of those surveyed had not yet contracted the corona virus.
Working despite illness is questionable from the point of view of medical professionals
From the point of view of medical professionals, working despite illness is questionable, especially in the case of contagious infections. “Anyone who does not heal in peace runs the risk of viral diseases attacking the heart or other organs or of symptoms suppressed by medication becoming worse,” says Gerd Herold, consultant doctor at Pronova BKK, to the newspapers of the Funke media group. “In addition, employees can be infected.” For example, being in the office despite a positive corona test is “an unreasonable risk”.
Health insurance study: Only 28 percent consistently stay at home when they are ill
Overall, according to the study, the majority of all employees go to work despite illness. In addition to the nine percent who suffer from corona, another 20 percent come to work with contagious infections. Only 28 percent of Germans consistently stay at home when they are ill and do not work.
Most often, employees go to the company despite back pain (49 percent), 38 percent despite allergies, as the study further states. A third of the employees with psychosomatic or psychological complaints appear at work. (dpa/ml)
