At the beginning of August there was a forest fire at a blasting site in Grunewald. Further bombs are to be blown up there on Wednesday, and the motorway and rail traffic will be closed.

Berlin – As a result of the devastating fire in Berlin’s Grunewald, bombs are to be blown up there that were no longer classified as safe. Police on Tuesday announced extensive security measures and closures for Wednesday’s emergency blast.

At the beginning of August, a fire with numerous explosions broke out at the site of the blasting site for reasons that have not yet been clarified. The fire brigade fought the fire on the premises and in the surrounding forest for days. Found bombs, ammunition or illegal fireworks are stored and destroyed at the police detonation site.

According to the police, the demolition planned for Wednesday at 1 p.m. involves four “bombs that are no longer safe to handle”. For this, the current security zone around the blast site must be expanded. Between 7:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., the A15 motorway, known as the Avus, between the Funkturm triangle and the Zehlendorf junction, and the parallel railway line for regional and long-distance traffic, are to be closed. dpa
