Terrible find in the Westerwald: an angler discovered a baby’s corpse in a pond in Rhineland-Palatinate.

Oberirsen – The dead baby was found in a pond in Oberirsen in the Westerwald. An angler discovered the baby in a bag on Monday evening, the Koblenz public prosecutor announced on Tuesday.

Westerwald: Baby corpse from Weiher is autopsied

According to the authorities, an autopsy has been ordered. The cause of death was initially unclear. “This is initially used to determine whether the child has been the victim of a homicide. After the result of the autopsy, it can only be judged whether and, if so, which investigations are to be initiated,” said the chief public prosecutor, as reported by the dpa news agency.

The public prosecutor’s office initially did not give any further details so as not to jeopardize the investigation. A local resident said the bag was weighed down with stones. (dpa/afp/ml)
