Another four bodies recovered after house collapse in Florida

With each passing day, each hour, the families of the residents of the Champlain South Tower in Florida lose hope a little more. The rescuers only find dead people in the rubble.

Miami – Rescuers are recovering more and more bodies from the rubble of the partially collapsed residential building in the US state of Florida. Four other victims were found, said the mayor of Miami-Dade, Daniella Levine Cava.

The official number of deaths is now 36. However, dozens of people are still missing. There is little hope of finding survivors in the ruins almost two weeks after the disaster. The salvage work continues to be hampered by the foothills of the approaching storm “Elsa”.

The residential complex with around 130 units collapsed on June 24th in Surfside near Miami. In the afternoon, US President Joe Biden called, Levine Cava said. He had also visited the site of the accident last week. He wanted to make sure the families and survivors in Surfside get the support they need, the mayor said over the phone. She is very grateful to him for his continued support.

Why the building collapsed is still unclear. The rubble would be examined by experts in a special warehouse. The authorities stressed that it was still a rescue and rescue operation. dpa
