When we believed that Apple had possibly finished adding health functions to its Apple Watch (its popular smart watch), just a few days ago we learned that the company has partnered with the Rockley company in order to improve the sensors present in the device .
An association that, according to experts, could allow the inclusion of devices to measure blood sugar, alcohol level or blood pressure , just to name a few examples.
Smart watches are, today, a true ally in the field of health. Packed with sensors, some allow the detection of many pathologies or anomalies in users.
In this case, in addition to adding the oximeter or the electrocardiogram, now the company with the bitten apple intends to go a little further by being able to measure blood pressure, alcohol level or even blood sugar.
This is information recently revealed by ‘The Telegraph’, upon discovering an association between Apple and Rockley. To find it, reporters searched the company’s IPO accounting documents, which were filed with the SEC (United States Securities and Exchange Commission Operations), discovering that Apple would be the largest client of Rockley Photonics , which specializes in the development of sensors to monitor blood sugar, blood pressure and blood alcohol level.
However, as experts also agree, there is no guarantee that the agreement with Rockley will necessarily lead to the arrival of these developments. However, Apple decided at the time to turn its smart watch into a health-focused device (among other interesting functions), so if the company is able to integrate this type of technology into a conventional product, we could find ourselves before an argument forceful to continue, once again, staying at the forefront of the market.
There is no doubt: Rockley’s technology could be of great help in this regard, since, for example, the control of blood pressure through the smart watch can alert the user to problems such as stress , while the control of the alcohol, could help reduce the consumption of drinks of this type.
In addition, blood sugar monitoring (a test also known as glucose monitoring) can be especially helpful for people with diabetes, as they need to monitor their level closely. Therefore, we would also find ourselves in a very important functionality, although we do not know how Apple would be able to implement it on its device.
In any case, those responsible for Rockley have indicated that they hope that the technology that the company is developing will be available in common products and devices by 2022, although they have refused to indicate whether this would involve a company as important as Apple.
But it seems like a no-brainer, as the Cupertino company has gone to great lengths to turn its popular Apple Watch into a device for both health and fitness. And Rockley, on the other hand, makes sensors capable of using light to examine a person’s blood. And what’s even better: they are small enough to fit on an Apple Watch. So, we will have to wait a while to see what is true in that.
