The actor Jason Momoa already proved in “Aquaman” that he cuts a good figure in the water. He also wants to stay true to the element for his next film.

According to a media report, “Aquaman” star Jason Momoa (43) wants to bring the story of surfing legend Duke Kahanamoku to the screen.

The actor and producer Peter Safran (“The Suicide Squad”) will produce a biopic about the athlete from Hawaii, according to the industry publication “Variety”.

Kahanamoku (1890-1968), a swimmer who won five Olympic medals, including three golds, between 1912 and 1924, popularized modern surfing. Originally the sport of Hawaiian kings, surfing was banned as a sin by European missionaries in the 19th century.

Hawaiian-born actor Momoa is best known for his role as the DC superhero “Aquaman,” who rules the underwater kingdom of Atlantis and is able to communicate with marine life. He also played the warrior Khal Drogo in Game of Thrones. The Hollywood star is committed to protecting the oceans, including as an ambassador for the UN environmental program UNEP. dpa
