Are there galaxies without stars?

It is called VIRGOHI21 and is 50 million light years from us. Discovered in 2005, the Hubble Space Telescope has only discovered 119 red giant stars in this dark galaxy, the typical number found in intergalactic space. It is made up of gas clouds and unknown dark matter. Surprisingly, it has 10 times more of this dark matter than normal galaxies.

Where do the stars go when they die? The astronomers, who have identified this 'cemetery', have baptized the place as 'galactic underworld'.

The Milky Way is wobbly and astronomers think they know why

This new finding refers to stars in the outer regions of the galactic disk.

Gaia finds the protogalaxy that became the heart of the Milky Way

The original nucleus of our galaxy? A new study uncovers the oldest known population of stars in the galaxy.

Passing through the arms of the Milky Way could form the Earth's crust

It seems that our planet's journey through the galaxy has been synchronized with the rate of crust formation for a long, long time.

What would happen if the black hole in the Milky Way disappeared?

Can you imagine this possibility? Travel with us to a scenario in which our galaxy lived without a black hole. Would it be something fatal? Not much less.
