The numbers are increasing: More and more people are taking their vacation home with them when they travel. Why the trend has strengthened again.
Frankfurt/Main – According to the Caravaning Industry Association, vacationing with a motor home and caravan is becoming increasingly popular. The association announced on Saturday in Frankfurt that new and used leisure vehicles are “in great demand” across Europe. For more than ten years, the industry has been recording growth rates among newcomers. A trend that has intensified with the corona pandemic.
Almost 1.5 million leisure vehicles are now registered nationwide – of which around 740,000 are caravans and 767,000 motorhomes. According to the information, around 115,000 additional vehicles are registered as cars, but are also used as motorhomes after conversions and extensions. And around 180,000 other vehicles are housed in permanent parking spaces.
The increasing number of recreational vehicles poses challenges for the tourism infrastructure in Germany, the association said. The number of RV parking spaces has grown to a total of a good 5,000 in the past year. There is still no area-wide shortage of parking spaces, but in regions that are particularly in demand there are already bottlenecks in the accommodation offers, it said.
The infrastructure for parking spaces must therefore be “expanded more quickly and broadly”, the association demands. Because: “There is no end in sight to the caravanning trend.” dpa
