According to initial police investigations, the receptionist was doused with a flammable liquid and then set on fire with a gas burner. The suspect, a 44-year-old German, was arrested shortly after the attack in downtown Lausanne.
Burned receptionist immediately runs into the street
The officials initiated investigations into the course and motive of the attack. The attacker had been expelled from the hotel the day before, Swiss media reported, citing witness statements. When she left the hotel, she said to the employee, “You, I will kill you”. Hotel director Eric Fassbind explained this to the 24Heures news portal. The attack happened near the Bessières bridge, near the historic center.
The receptionist “had removed her sweater immediately. She stood on the sidewalk in her bra and called for help,” a witness said. Together with other passers-by, he tried to stop the perpetrator, “but every time she turned around and threatened us with her cutting torch. We gave it up.”
According to the reports, the woman had previously entered the hotel several times. According to Fassbind, the hotel reported this to the police several times. “On Tuesday we even took a picture of her.” The woman always came secretly through the emergency exit to the hotel. The alleged perpetrator sometimes slept in the stairwell or in a luggage room and was only discovered later at breakfast. She did the same in other hotels. (cg with afp)
