Author: "Sex and the City" is "not very feminist"

The series “Sex and the City” drew a whole generation in front of the television. Now the author of the hit series has raised concerns that the portrayal is conveying the wrong message for women.

New York – “Sex-and-the-City” author Candace Bushnell (62) thinks that the hit series does not convey the right message for women.

“The reality is that looking for a man in the long run may not be the best economic choice,” she said in an interview with the New York Post. Men could be “very dangerous in many ways” to women, she continued. “The TV show and message didn’t end up being very feminist.” In the 1990s, Bushnell wrote the column “Sex and the City,” which was later published as a book and on which the famous HBO series is loosely based.

The enthusiasm for the story about the main character Carrie Bradshaw, she could understand, said Bushnell. “It’s a great show, it’s really funny.” Still, she has the feeling that some fans are too oriented towards the fictional lives of the characters.

What the announced reboot of the series is about, she does not yet know herself, said the author. But she will watch the series “in any case”. In January the streaming service HBO Max announced the new edition of the cult series (1998-2004) about New York women and their love adventures – with Sarah Jessica Parker, Cynthia Nixon and Kristin Davis as leading actresses and executive producers on board. dpa
