Bavarian folk festival host: "Every band should play Layla" – Greens react to "tasteless promotion"

A proprietor of the humid church fair reacts to the sexism debate about the Ballerman hit “Layla” with a reaction of defiance. The Greens then start a protest action in the beer tent.

Moist – The “Layla” debate seems to have no end. After the controversial Ballerman hit was banned at the Würzburg Kiliani folk festival, Germany apparently never comes to rest in the debate. Exaggerated or justified? Many politicians and celebrities have already commented on the accusation of sexism in the song. Now the action of one of the landlords of the humid church fair, Denny Morawski, is causing a stir again. He had already “demanded” the hit from all his bands in advance.

Ballerman hit “Layla”: Festwirt in Feucht does not understand sexism allegations

According to nordbayern.de , he even placed an ad in the messenger that explicitly states that “Layla” played on the wet Kärwa. For him it was a defiant reaction, he could not understand the accusations of sexism “at all”, as he revealed to infranken.de e. “People come to me to drink and to celebrate and if the guests in the tent want to hear that, then I offer that too.” According to the portal, the band “Lederhosenrocker” alone played the song eight to ten times.

The host’s action did not meet with universal support. The local branch of the Greens started a protest action right in the beer tent. The party doesn’t think much of the “tasteless promotion” that the host would do with the song on the Kärwa in Feucht.

Debate about hit “Layla”: Greens start protest in beer tent

According to the Greens, “Layla” is just another party song, based on the principle of “catchy, simple melody and short, simple lyrics with sexist content”. The strategy of silence, nor that of the ban are expedient here. It is much more important to the Greens to talk about “whether we still need to have fun and a relaxed atmosphere based on sexist songs in 2022.”

From our point of view, it would be desirable if this category of songs weren’t banned and censored, but that old sods simply didn’t want to hear them anymore

The Green local branch Feucht

The song should not be banned or censored, one wishes that such a song “simply no old sow wants to hear anymore,” says the party’s Facebook post. After the host’s defiant reaction, it was decided to carry the statement directly into the beer tent. The members of the Kärwa were out and about with signs that read “Layda is sexism, even on the Kärwa shit!”

Greens suggest playing Eric Clapton’s “Layla” instead. Whether the song can replace the party hit remains questionable. (tkip)
