Blackberry OS stops working from today

It has come to an end. After having disconnected support for their smartphones some 22 years after these devices first hit the market, the operating system of this mobile platform stops working as of today.

The measure will affect devices running BlackBerry 7.1 and earlier versions, BlackBerry 10 and BlackBerry PlayBook OS 2.1, although Android models will not be affected.

Devices with Blackberry OS will not receive software updates; They may also have problems sending and receiving calls (including emergency services) and sending or receiving text messages.

Applications such as BlackBerry Link, Desktop Manager, World, Messenger, and Blend will have "limited functionality."

These devices became very popular between 2001 and 2007, but lost "their touch" in 2016, to the rising iPhone of the Apple company. And in the end, its complex design and lack of consumer awareness led the company to announce in 2018 that they would no longer produce their smartphone. Today another cycle closes.
