Venice – actor Brendan Fraser (“The Mummy”) has developed a completely new body image for his current film role. In “The Whale”, which premieres at the Venice Film Festival, the 53-year-old plays a very overweight man.
“I had to learn to move in a whole new way,” the American-Canadian actor said in Venice. “I developed muscles that I didn’t know I had.” When he took off his fat suit in the evening after a day of shooting, he got dizzy.
“The Whale” (director: Darren Aronofsky) is one of 23 entries in the competition of the film festival. Fraser plays Charlie, who is so overweight he spends most of his day on his couch. After a long time without contact, he tries to get closer to his daughter again. This is played by Sadie Sink (“Stranger Things”). dpa
