Los Angeles – Jamie Spears, the father of US singer Britney Spears, has announced in a court declaration that he will step down as guardian. Even if the resignation is not to take place immediately, Spears’ concession marks a milestone in the 39-year-old singer’s long struggle to regain self-determination in her life. US media published the statement that was filed with the Superior Court in Los Angeles (USA) on Thursday (August 12, 2021). Jaime Spears announced that he would resign as his daughter’s guardian “at the right time”. The 69-year-old’s lawyers further stated that a “proper transition” to the appointment of a new guardian was a condition.
However, Spears would agree to work with his daughter’s new lawyer to appoint a new guardian. Britney Spears’ lawyer, Mathew Rosengart, also rated the development as a great victory for his client. In his opinion, Jamie Spears should immediately resign as guardian, he said in a message published by the industry journal Variety.
Dispute over the guardianship of Britney Spears: Serious allegations against father Jaime
The singer collapsed in 2008 due to mental health problems and was temporarily forcibly admitted to a clinic. At that time, her father took over the guardianship of his daughter and thus also took control of her finances. Spears, however, went to court last year. US singer Britney Spears is fighting against her father’s guardianship with a new lawyer
In July, Mathew Rosengart had once again applied to the court for her father to be replaced as guardian of the famous daughter. He held Jamie Spears on Thursday (August 12, 2021) according to a statement “shameful and reprehensible attacks” on Britney Spears. Britney Spears: Great support from celebrity friends and fans – “#FreeBritney”
Britney Spears herself posted a painted picture on Instagram without further comment showing a woman from behind. She wears flowers in her hair and a butterfly flies over her shoulder. A user commented on the picture with the words “We are one step further on the way to your freedom”. Another commented: “She is free”.
According to the petition, Jamie Spears is to be replaced by an interim guardian – certified auditor Jason Rubin. The next hearing in the legal dispute is scheduled for the end of September. Many celebrities and fans have sided with the singer under the hashtag “#FreeBritney” over the past few months.
