This is how two wild oxen from Java or banteng were born , an animal that is on the verge of extinction, and that was cloned thanks to a frozen skin sample since 1980. One, sick, died a few days later. The other, if it manages to live, would be genetically equal to the 5,000 wild oxen that remain and would be used to reproduce it in captivity . The scientists extracted the genetic material and inserted it into cow eggs that had previously had their DNA extracted. They obtained 45 banteng embryos that were implanted in 30 cows of which only 2 concluded the pregnancy.
In Spain tissue from the last female bucardo is conserved for possible cloning.
