CES Las Vegas 2019: this will be the brains of our devices

In this new installment of our videoblog we keep telling you news from CES in Las Vegas. And it is that, if the struggle of Google and Amazon to stand out with their announcements at CES has been worth mentioning, so has that of two other American companies that bring their processors, increasingly intelligent to all things, cars, appliances, smartphones, computers: Qualcomm and Intel were also protagonists at CES.

Qualcomm , for example, offered interactive demonstrations of its autonomous driving solutions with Audi, Ducati and Ford . It also showed the capabilities of its chips in the vehicles that integrated Amazon’s Alexa; And to show his leadership in the field of smartphones, he pointed out that this year more than 30 smart phones will be marketed with their Qualcomm 855 chipsets with 5G capabilities.

Intel , for its part, made multiple announcements that spanned the world of the PC, 5G technology, and autonomous driving. In the PC arena, Intel announced that its latest Intel® Xeon® processors are already shipping with advanced AI capabilities. It also featured the upcoming release of the first 10nm processor, codenamed ” Ice Lake .” The first Ice Lake-equipped devices will arrive in late 2019. Intel also announced its Project Athena , an innovation program and a new set of industry specifications developed to usher in a new breed of advanced notebooks designed to facilitate new experiences and take advantage of the next generation of technologies, including 5G communications and artificial intelligence .

Intel counted on its alliance with Alibaba for the development of the first technology for athlete tracking . Combining computer vision with AI-based deep learning algorithms will allow 3D shapes to be extracted from athletes in training and competitions using multiple standard video cameras without requiring special sensors or suits. Intel and Alibaba aim to offer this technology at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

And I leave for last Samsung and LG , who in recent years have left their struggle to lead the Smart TV market for the CES in Las Vegas, and who in this edition of the largest global consumer electronics exhibition have shown the future of TV. Yes, the future is 8K. When there is not even content in 4K, the two Korean companies already want to start selling TVs with double definition. Samsung showed screens with the revolutionary Micro LED technology : a 75-inch, the 219-inch The Wall model, as well as others of different sizes, shapes and surprising configurations. These new displays are comprised of individual micro LED emitter modules, containing millions of microscopic chips of inorganic red, green and blue LEDs that emit their own light to produce millions of brilliant colors on the screen, offering unmatched image quality that surpasses any display technology now available on the market.

And LG surprised with what for experts and analysts is the most revolutionary Smart TV ever designed: the world’s first rollable OLED TV. The LG SIGNATURE OLED TV R stands out for a revolutionary form factor only possible thanks to OLED technology. Users will be able to use their own voice thanks to the integration of Amazon Alexa to LG’s AI TV lineup in 2019. And with Apple HomeKit support, customers will be able to control the TV using the Apple app or by asking Siri directly.

Now, all this battle in January, at CES in Las Vegas, moves to the end of February, to the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, between February 25 and 28. Better said, this year, between February 20 and 28. In the next video, we will tell you why this year the MWC starts on Wednesday, February 20, and not in Barcelona.
