A biopic about the “father of the atomic bomb”: Director Christopher Nolan is increasing his fans’ anticipation of his new film “Oppenheimer” – although it is still a long time before the film starts.
Los Angeles – Director Christopher Nolan (51, “The Dark Knight”, “Dunkirk”) has released the first poster for his star-studded “Oppenheimer” drama.
The atomic physicist J. Robert Oppenheimer stands as a small figure in front of a huge, orange fireball. “The world is changing forever,” reads the caption. Cillian Murphy, Robert Downey Jr., Matt Damon, Emily Blunt and Florence Pugh are listed as cast members. Nolan posted the poster on Thursday (local time), exactly one year before the planned US theatrical release on July 21, 2023.
In the biopic, Irishman Cillian Murphy (“Dunkirk”) embodies the “father of the atomic bomb”. The film takes place during World War II, when Oppenheimer (1904-1967) was instrumental in developing the atomic bomb. The American of German-Jewish descent led the top-secret Manhattan Project in Los Alamos. After the first atomic bomb was dropped on Hiroshima on August 6, 1945, Oppenheimer was shocked by the destructive power of the bomb, campaigned against the use of nuclear weapons and became the victim of an anti-communist hunt in the USA. dpa
