The company Ferrero de México SA de CV notified this health authority about the withdrawal of batches manufactured in Belgium, after cases of salmonellosis were detected in Europe after consumption.
Cofepris asks supermarkets, convenience stores and all those establishments where the “Kinder mini eggs” product is marketed, to verify their inventory to rule out the presence of possibly contaminated batches, in order to prevent health risks.

Open investigation in Belgium
The Belgian justice opened an investigation to establish possible responsibilities after there were cases of salmonella in several European countries for products from the Kinder chocolate factory in Belgium, the Luxembourg Provincial Prosecutor’s Office announced on Monday.
“I confirm the opening of judicial information,” Anne-Sophie Gilmot, spokeswoman for the Prosecutor’s Office, said in a statement, without giving more details about the facts under investigation.
Jean-Sebastien Wahlin, of the Federal Agency for the Security of the Food Chain (AFSCA), declared for his part to the AFP agency that “the authorization of the company had been withdrawn, it is now up to the justice to carry out the investigation”.
The federal agency forced the Ferrero group (owner of Kinder) on Friday to close the production plant in Arlon (located in southern Belgium) due to the lack of transparency surrounding an incident that occurred in mid-December and that could have led to salmonella contamination of Kinder products.
The Belgian watchdog criticized the “incomplete” information provided by Ferrero after the accident, and ordered the manufacturer to withdraw all Kinder products from Arlon.
The Italian group Ferrero, which also makes Nutella cocoa and hazelnut cream, acknowledged “internal failures” that led to “delays in the recovery and timely exchange of information.”
“For several weeks, more than a hundred cases of salmonellosis have been identified in Europe,” the AFSCA said in a statement, adding that since the end of March a “link” between these poisonings and the Ferrero factory in Arlon in Belgium has been confirmed. “.
Some 63 cases of salmonellosis were identified in the UK, while 21 cases were reported in France, 15 of whom claimed to have consumed Kinder products, according to the French Ministry of Health.

A few days before Easter, Ferrero extended the decision, preventively, to withdraw Kinder chocolates in the United States and Argentina.
