Corona and vacation: This is possible in the federal states

The temperatures are rising, and so is the desire for vacation for many people. Due to Corona, travel options in Germany are still limited – but in some places it is becoming increasingly relaxed.

Berlin (dpa) – Many people long for vacation – and with falling numbers of new infections, the opportunities for tourist visits are increasing in many federal states.

Because the seven-day incidence in most rural districts or urban districts is stable below 100, the catering and hotel industries are in some cases significantly relaxed. Hotels and holiday apartments are increasingly welcoming guests again, as is the gastronomy. Contact follow-up remains important. What is possible in the countries:

BAVARIA: In rural districts and urban districts with a five-day stable incidence below 100, hotels, guest houses, holiday apartments, campsites and youth hostels are allowed to open. The same applies to cable cars and river and lake shipping. Prerequisites are a negative corona test no longer than 24 hours old and regular further tests during the stay. Beer gardens and outdoor catering have been open for a long time with incidences below 100, but this does not yet apply to indoor catering.

BADEN-WÜRTTEMBERG: If the incidence is below 100 for five days in a row, outdoor and indoor restaurants, for example, are allowed to open with curfew, hygiene requirements and test concepts. Tourist overnight stays in hotels, guest houses, holiday apartments or campsites are then also possible. Guests need proof of vaccination or recovery, or a negative test, which must be renewed every three days. Cable cars, coaches and excursion boats can also start again to a limited extent.

BERLIN: From June 11th, private overnight stays in hotels and pensions will be possible again in the capital. The guests have to present a negative corona test every three days. With a negative test result, you can again be served indoors in pubs and restaurants from this Friday on. The outdoor catering is already open, the test is not compulsory on Friday. Then cinemas, theaters, opera and concert halls will also open again. The first museums and memorials have already opened. There are also city tours and boat trips again.

BRANDENBURG: Tourist overnight stays are already allowed again in holiday apartments and on campsites. From Thursday on, communal sanitary facilities are allowed to open again. In addition to city tours and boat trips, trips by coach are again allowed. As in Berlin, private overnight stays in hotels and guest houses are possible from June 11th. The guests have to present a negative corona test every three days.

BREMEN: Catering establishments may also reopen until 11 p.m. indoors, provided a hygiene concept is in place and the guests’ contact details are collected. A test is compulsory up to and including June 13th. Thereafter, this only applies if the incidence is over 35. Hotel overnight stays for tourist purposes are permitted – with a hygiene concept and a current negative test. Those who have recovered or who are fully vaccinated do not need to present a test.

HAMBURG: After a forced break of seven months, tourists have been able to stay overnight in the Hanseatic city again since Tuesday. Hotels, holiday apartments and campsites are allowed to receive private travelers. Here too, strict hygiene requirements and the submission of a negative corona test are required. The companies are only allowed to use 60 percent of their capacity. It is still forbidden to rent private living space to tourists. Outside catering is allowed, and from the weekend guests can also dine inside. Harbor and city tours are also permitted under the usual hygiene requirements.

MECKLENBURG-VORPOMMERN: In the north-east, innkeepers have been able to serve their guests outside and inside for a long time. If you want to take a seat inside, you need a negative corona test. Locals have been able to go on holiday in their own country again since the end of May; guests from the rest of Germany can do so from Friday. A negative corona test must be presented on arrival.

LOWER SAXONY: Tourist overnight stays are possible where the seven-day incidence in counties and urban districts is below 100. Hotels and other quarters can be occupied with an incidence below 50 up to 80 percent, with an incidence below 35 the limit does not apply. Guests from all over Germany are allowed to come – with a negative test or proof of recovery or full vaccination. Holidays on the North Sea, in the heath or in the Lower Saxony part of the Harz are possible.

NORTH RHINE-WESTPHALIA: In the case of a seven-day incidence over 50 and not higher than 100, hotels without capacity limits are allowed to open for overnight stays with breakfast, but without further indoor catering. Here, too, guests must show a negative test, which must be renewed every three days, be vaccinated or have recovered. Holiday apartments, campsites and outdoor catering are also allowed to open – with a test and space allocation. If the incidence is over 35, but not over 50, there is no compulsory test in outdoor catering. Indoor catering is allowed to open with a negative test certificate and seat allocation. Minimum distances remain traceability required.

SAXONY: Campsites and holiday apartments in Saxony can again accommodate guests. Hotels and guesthouses, on the other hand, have to wait until June 14th. Then they are allowed to open under conditions with stable incidences below 100. Tourist bus trips should then be possible again.

SACHSEN-ANHALT: Overnight stays on campsites or in holiday apartments – that is, where the guests can cater for themselves – are permitted. If the incidence is stable below 35, youth hostels and holiday camps have been allowed to open since Wednesday. Bus trips and city tours are also allowed again with a mask. Visits to outdoor restaurants are again allowed without a test. The compulsory test continues to apply indoors – except for those who have been vaccinated and those who have recovered. There is no curfew in the gastro.

SCHLESWIG-HOLSTEIN: Schleswig-Holstein is open to tourists from all over Germany. Overnight guests must bring a negative corona test that is no more than 48 hours old and renew it every three days. Outside catering has been allowed in the north for a long time, and now indoor catering has also been allowed. There, guests have to present a negative corona test, with the exception of overnight guests in “their” respective hotel.

THURINGIA: Since Wednesday, campsites and holiday apartments can be booked with a stable incidence of less than 100. Coach events are then permitted for day tourism offers, and trips lasting several days if the incidence is below 50. Hotels and pensions are then also allowed to accommodate guests – with only 60 percent occupancy and indoor catering only for overnight guests. Guests must also present a negative corona test or proof of vaccination or recovery. Contact tracking must also be possible. As the incidence falls, staggered requirements are no longer applicable in the catering trade.

SAARLAND: In Saarland, restaurants and cafés have been able to receive guests indoors again since May 31st. A maximum of ten people – tested negative, fully vaccinated or recovered from Corona – are allowed to sit at a table. Overnight stays in hotels, guesthouses, youth hostels and campsites are again possible with a hygiene concept and subject to conditions, as are coach and ship trips. Travelers must present a negative test, which must be repeated every 48 hours for stays of several days. Since May 24th, beach and outdoor swimming pools have been allowed to reopen, and leisure activities such as visiting climbing parks are allowed for up to ten people.

HESSEN: The situation in Hessen varies from region to region. If the seven-day incidence in a municipality is below 100 on five consecutive days, level 1 of the easing applies – then, for example, zoos, open-air museums and amusement parks are allowed to open, visitors must make an appointment. Outdoor catering can also open under certain conditions, guests need a daily test. Hotels, holiday homes, youth hostels and campsites can also open under certain conditions, guests must submit tests upon arrival and twice a week, the occupancy rate is limited to 60 percent.

If a municipality has an incidence below 100 for 14 days or below 50 for five days, level 2 applies with further relaxation. Then the interiors of restaurants can be visited again with a daily test. The maximum occupancy in the accommodation establishments is then 75 percent.

RHINELAND-PALATINATE: In Rhineland-Palatinate, it has been in force since Thursday that the catering industry is allowed to open indoor areas even with incidences between 50 and 100, a corona test is mandatory. The obligation to test in outdoor catering, on the other hand, is no longer necessary. Recreational facilities such as mini golf courses and theme parks are allowed to open outdoors. Saunas can open with a test and a maximum of 50 percent occupancy. In the hotels, guests may be entertained inside and outside, breakfast is also permitted as a buffet. Wellness offers are possible for hotel guests under certain conditions.

Cultural facilities such as theaters and cinemas are open inside and outside for 100 spectators, with incidence below 50 outside for 250. Prime Minister Malu Dreyer (SPD) has also announced further opening steps in mid-June and early July.
