The police in Göttingen are preparing for a demonstration against the Corona measures at the Jahnstadion. A counter-demonstration was also registered.
Goettingen – A demonstration by corona critics will take place at the Jahnstadion in Goettinger Sandweg on Monday (February 14th, 2022). A kick-off rally is planned, followed by a march through the neighboring residential area. A counter-demonstration was also registered. According to a press report, the police are expecting a larger operation and have significantly increased the number of emergency services compared to previous demonstrations.
The event is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. Residents and road users must then expect numerous disabilities and road closures. According to the police, the emergency services will try to keep the disabilities as small as possible. Above all, due to the increasing willingness to use violence among the demonstrators and counter-demonstrators, it is hardly possible to react to all violations.

For example, after a Monday demonstration in early February, the police were sharply criticized by various organizations because they responded inadequately to mask violations. Police chief Thomas Reuter justified this by saying that the emergency services had to concentrate on blocking the demonstration procession and averting physical altercations and assaults. “It should be clear to everyone that this bundling of personnel has adverse effects on the punishment of any mask violations, since the officials are then actually not available for this during this time,” says Reuter, who will lead the operation at the Jahnstadion in Göttingen.

The police noticed a growing aggressiveness towards the emergency services, especially among counter-demonstrators.
