In his prominent role as tribal chief W’Kabi, the British actor delighted cinema audiences in 2018. “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” has to do without him now – reasons for the deadline.
Los Angeles – British Oscar winner Daniel Kaluuya (33, “Judas and the Black Messiah”, “Get Out”) is not in the sequel to the science fiction superhero film “Black Panther”. He will not slip back into the role of tribal leader W’Kabi, reported US trade journals. Kaluuya informed the film portal “Rotten Tomatoes” that he could not play in “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” due to scheduling reasons for filming the new horror film “Nope”.
In the blockbuster film Black Panther (2018), Kaluuya had a prominent role as W’Kabi. He played the best friend and later rival of the king’s son T’Challa (Chadwick Boseman) in the fictional African state of Wakanda.
Boseman died of cancer in 2020, but director Ryan Coogler and Marvel Studio are sticking with a sequel featuring many of the actors from the original film. Black Panther: Wakanda Forever wrapped up in March and is slated for a November release. Stars like Lupita Nyong’o, Danai Gurira, Letitia Wright and Angela Bassett are back on board from the previous cast.
Kaluuya, who won the 2021 Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for Judas and the Black Messiah, now returns to theaters in director Jordan Peele’s (Get Out) horror film Nope. The horror strip about extraterrestrial beings is scheduled to start in Germany in mid-August. dpa
