Danish Queen Margrethe II continues visit to Munich

When she visited Markus Söder in the Munich residence, the state government put on the full program: firecrackers, flowers, brass music. On Saturday it will be a little quieter for the Danish queen.

Munich – The Danish Queen Margrethe II will continue her visit to Munich on Saturday. She will be a guest at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich.

There she is supposed to take part in the signing ceremony for a pilot program for German-Danish scholarships in the field of culture.

On Friday, Prime Minister Markus Söder (CSU) received the monarch in the Munich residence. The State Chancellery launched the full Bavarian welcome program for this: gunshots, standard-bearers, traditional costumes, brass music – and a white and blue bouquet for the monarch from the north. They had “exchanged very, very friendly,” said Söder after the meeting. In front of the residence, some fans of the king with Denmark flags gathered.

State banquet canceled due to Corona

The state banquet in her honor originally planned for Friday evening was canceled due to the tense corona situation. The Queen had absolutely understanding for this, said Söder, adding that Denmark also has a strict “corona philosophy”.

Margrethe II (81) is on a four-day visit to Germany at the invitation of Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier. She started in Berlin, where she was accompanied by her son, Crown Prince Frederik (53).

Margrethe has been Queen of Denmark for almost 50 years. She is known for her interest in art and literature. In September it became public that she was involved in a film for the streaming service Netflix. She designed the set and costumes for the literary film “Ehrengard”. dpa
