There are 14 films in the international competition for long documentary and animation films in Leipzig, 12 of which, according to the festival, will have their international premiere at the DOK.
Leipzig – After a format that was restricted due to the corona last year, the Leipzig Festival for Documentary and Animated Film (DOK) is fully back: The DOK will be officially opened on Monday (7 p.m.). Until October 31, film fans in Leipzig can look forward to 162 films from 51 countries.
Some of the films will be streamed online following the analog festival. Last year the festival took place in hybrid form: In addition to the screenings with limited space, the films were shown online in parallel.
The festival will open this year with the film “The Rhine flows into the Mediterranean” by Offer Avnon. The director, himself the son of a Polish Holocaust survivor, reflects in the film on his impressions from Germany and deals with trauma and mechanisms of repression in Germany, Poland and Israel.
Other topics that will be dealt with at this year’s DOK are flight and migration as well as post-colonial perspectives. dpa
