Does drinking water help you lose weight?

A team of scientists has presented a clinical trial during the National Meeting of the American Chemical Society (ACS for its acronym in English) that shows that drinking two cups of water before eating helps you lose weight and fight obesity.

During 12 weeks, in trials with 48 adult individuals, they found that people on a diet who drink water before meals, 3 times a day, lose 2.25 kilos more than those who do not. "People should drink more water and fewer sugary drinks, it's a simple way to control weight," says Brenda Davy, a researcher at Virginia Tech University (USA) and co-author of the study.

According to Davy, until now popular culture has defended the importance of water to shed the extra pounds. But there was little scientific information to corroborate it.
