Having a good time in bed on a regular basis is supposed to be one of the ingredients of happiness. However, research does not find such a correlation. A recent work co-directed by Amy Muise, Ulrich Schimmack and Emily Impett, psychologists at the University of Toronto (Canada), reached the conclusion that an erotic-affective bond does indeed promote our happiness, but that this does not increase when the happiness is multiplied. number of intercourse or other sexual practices.
From a frequency of once a week, individuals no longer notice an increase in their life satisfaction.
Happiness is not a matter of numbers
In our society we try to quantify happiness and we tend to think that by increasing the numbers of the factors that affect it (more exercise, more money, more friends, etc.) we can increase it. But sexuality (like other elements of wellness) doesn’t work that way. What makes people happy, according to this study, is the connection with the other and the daily enjoyment of eroticism, not the number of orgasms per week.
The data from this research must be taken into account –the authors interviewed more than 30,000 people–, but it must be considered that they refer only to individuals who maintain stable relationships and do not seek a temporary encounter: from the surveys it is not possible to know if couples are happy because they do it once a week or, on the contrary, if they maintain that regularity because they feel good.
In our country, surveys tell us that 73% of Spaniards with a partner have sex at least once a week … Do we believe it?
