Don Everly of the Everly Brothers is dead

US singer Don Everly of the Everly Brothers is dead. He died on Saturday at the age of 84, as his team announced on the duo's Instagram page.

Nashville – The Everly Brothers celebrated great success with hits like “Bye, Bye Love”, “Wake Up, Little Susie” and “All I Have To Do Is Dream”. Don's brother Phil Everly, the second half of the duo, had died in 2014 at the age of 74.

The Everly Brothers, with their guitar-focused harmony singing, are an important influence for the Beatles, the Beach Boys and Simon & Garfunkel, among others. A spokesman for the duo confirmed Don Everly's death to the Los Angeles Times, but gave no further details about the cause of death.

Their parents were successful country musicians. The Everly Brothers celebrated their greatest hits in the late 1950s and early 1960s, but after several flops the duo fell out and played one last appearance for the time being in 1973. It wasn't until ten years later that the brothers were back on stage together. dpa
