No joke: Donald Trump announces his appearance as a co-commentator on a boxing match. In the ring, Evander Holyfield and Vitor Belfort face each other.
Hollywood, Florida – From the White House to the commentary booth of a boxing match. Only one person in this world can achieve this kind of development: Donald Trump. The 75-year-old former US president, real estate agent, hotelier and casino owner announced that he would expand his professional profile this Saturday (September 11th, 2021) and comment on a boxing match in a hotel belonging to the “hard rock” group.
58-year-old Evander Holyfield and 44-year-old Vitor Belfort face each other in the ring. For Holyfield, once world champion in heavyweight boxing, it is the first professional boxing match in more than ten years. It is the first for Belfort. The Brazilian fighter comes from mixed martial arts (MMA) and had his last professional fight in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) three years ago. He was the UFC light heavyweight champion over 16 years ago. Now the two veterans of their sports are facing each other in the boxing ring – accompanied by Donald Trump.

Donald Trump loves “great fighters and great fights”
“I love great fighters and great fights,” Donald Trump let the world know in a press release. “I’m really looking forward to this Saturday and to sharing my thoughts from the ring side. You don’t want to miss this special event! “
This special boxing match only came about because another elderly man and former world class boxer had to cancel his performance. Oscar De La Hoya, 48 years old and once world champion in six different weight classes, had to withdraw from the planned fight against Belfort due to a corona illness. Holyfield agreed at short notice that the sports operetta in the “Hard Rock Hotel” in Hollywood, Florida, was saved.

Donald Trump and his long career in the martial arts world
For Donald Trump, it’s not the first foray into the world of bizarre martial arts events. As a New York real estate agent, Trump once had a role in the show-fight-wrestling soap opera of the World Wrestling Council, whose boss Vince McMahon is a good friend of the Trumps. Trump later also helped Dana White, President of the UFC, in which he offered the then wicked MMA sport a stage in his hotel in Atlantic City, when no other organizer wanted the brutal fighting with them. White reciprocated Trump with an acceptance speech at the Republican nomination convention. As President and in the period afterwards, the Trumps, namely Donald Senior as well as Donald Trump Junior and Eric Trump, regularly attended UFC events – most recently the fight between Dustin Poirier and Conor McGregor.

Fights between retirees of the sport against people who were never professionals in the sport or other retirees are particularly booming in the USA at the moment. Ex-boxing world champion Floyd Mayweather recently competed against Youtuber Logan Paul. His brother boxed with MMA fighters Ben Askren and Tyron Woodley. Mike Tyson also recently appeared again in the ring and against Roy Jones Junior.
Obviously, mankind has an increased interest in old men in the boxing ring. Or the sport is so bad that it has nothing more to offer than old, worn-out former stars. In both cases, Donald Trump somehow fits in very well. (Daniel Dillmann)
