The monarch is close to the people. He visited Oranje fans on the street on Thursday. Obviously, he did not think about the necessary 1.5 meters distance.
The Hague (dpa) – The Dutch King Willem-Alexander (54) is again heavily criticized for not observing the Corona rules.
The monarch had visited a street with Oranje fans in The Hague on Thursday evening before the European Championship game of the Netherlands: Photos and videos show that he does not keep the required 1.5 meters distance and shakes hands. Ministers reprimanded the king on Friday: “The rules apply to everyone,” said the Minister for Medical Care, Tamara van Ark, the TV broadcaster NOS.
The minister said the king had a role model function. “The rules are not free.” However, several ministers also expressed understanding for the king’s enthusiasm for football. The street that the king visited was named “Most Beautiful Orange Street” in the country during the European Football Championship. It is completely decorated with orange flags and garlands.
It’s not the first time the king has broken the rules and incurred public anger. In the autumn, the whole family went on vacation to Greece, despite the government calling on all citizens to stay at home. The sympathy values for the royal family then fell sharply.
