EA Sports has been hacked

A group of hackers claims to have stolen around 780 GB of data from EA . In addition to the source code for FIFA 21, cybercriminals claim to have stolen code from the matchmaking server for the hit game for 2022 and for the proprietary game engine Frostbite used as the basis for many other games such as FIFA.

Is there a risk for the players?

The company EA has explained that they have not stolen player data in this intrusion. The breach comes as cyberattacks are gaining more attention once again, with ransomware attacks hitting major infrastructure companies such as meatpacking company JBS USA and fuel distributor Colonial Pipeline; although, in this case, the EA Sports hack was not through a ransomware attack.
