The end of the 9-euro ticket causes trouble. An action calls for fare dodgers and may cover the costs.
Kassel – The end of the 9-euro ticket caused a lot of criticism. Citizens are disappointed that politicians have not yet been able to come up with a successor solution. It is considered certain that there will be a cheaper ticket in the future. Before that, however, politicians still have to clarify a few questions. In order to protest, campaigns encourage fare evasion.
In Nuremberg, a group of climate activists from the “last generation” and the Jesuit Father Jörg Alt deliberately drove on the tram and subway without a ticket on September 1st. During their campaign, they carried signs and posters with them calling for climate protection and the extension of the 9-euro ticket.
For old, the 9-euro ticket is a “socially fair and ecologically sustainable success story”. That’s why he decided with the group of activists for the “campaign of civil disobedience”. During their protest, the group was also controlled. Due to missing tickets, the personal details were recorded. There is now a threat of punishment, as the BR reports.

9-euro ticket has expired – campaign starts 9-euro fund for fare dodging
An even larger campaign is also aimed at the end of the 9-euro ticket. This is called the 9-euro fund. The principle is relatively simple: there is a fund into which everyone can pay 9 euros a month. This gives you “ticket insurance”. Because those who take part in the campaign do not have to pay a possible increased transport fee themselves. Instead, this is paid from the fund.
The purpose of the campaign is to emphasize the positive effect of the 9-euro ticket. “Because more and more people want clean and sustainable mobility, no polluting cars,” writes the campaign on its website. It is hoped that through a high level of participation, politicians will be encouraged to act more quickly.
These are the specific demands of the 9-Euro Fund campaign
| Expansion of public transport | Tighter frequency, barrier-free access and doubling of the bus and train service by 2030 |
| More attractive work | Fair wages (subject to collective agreements), better working conditions |
| More staff | 100,000 new hires for departing staff and 70,000 new jobs |
| redistribution of money | Abolish subsidies that are harmful to the environment and the climate as well as diesel and company car privileges, invest funds in public transport instead of road construction projects |
“I’m driving without a ticket” stickers are intended to attract attention
With a sticker with the inscription “I’m driving without a ticket” the accusation of “cheating services” should be avoided. Anyone who wants to support the campaign can print out these stickers and wear them visibly – even if they are not actively participating.
The action points out that they can only take over the increased fare. However, legal protection is not possible. Therefore, everyone should decide for themselves whether they want to commit the crime. The campaign writes: “We do not call for driving without a ticket, because that would be punishable.” Nevertheless, as many people as possible should be inspired to take part.
Like the 9-euro ticket, the 9-euro fund should be “valid” for buses, underground and S-Bahn trains and trams. Regional transport, on the other hand, is not included because controls are carried out there too frequently. The campaign is making further demands on politicians. After that, among other things, public transport is to be expanded and more staff hired. In addition, the work should be made more attractive and money should be redistributed. (Jan Oeftger)
