The electricity weather report is part of the national energy saving plan that the government will unveil this Thursday, Le Parisien newspaper reported. The public television channel France Télévisions announces that it will make the French aware of energy-saving measures to avoid power outages this winter.

According to its own information, the station uses “écoWatt” – a website of the national network supplier RTE (Réseau de transport d’électricité) – for the electricity weather forecast.

France’s nuclear power plants are crumbling

The nuclear power plants in France are weakening. In the middle of the energy crisis, half of the 56 nuclear power plants are currently offline for maintenance and repairs.

It is uncertain whether as many power plants as possible from the national energy company EDF will be running again by winter. President Emmanuel Macron, currently symbolically wearing a turtleneck sweater, wants to completely nationalize EDF again in order to ensure the energy supply in France.

France relies on electricity supplies from Germany in winter and wants to help out with gas in return. In Lorraine near Saarbrücken, France’s penultimate coal-fired power plant went back into operation for a limited period of time.

France wants to be the first large country to do without fossil energy sources entirely. The country plans to expand renewable energy and nuclear power. At least six nuclear power plants are to be built. (ml)
