The energy flat rate will be paid out in September 2022. Consumers will, however, have to pay the gas levy a little later. What is left of the 300 euros?

Berlin – The energy flat rate of 300 euros will finally be paid out in September 2022. Due to the exploding energy prices as a result of the Ukraine war, the lump sum is one of the longest-awaited financial aid from the relief package. But there is a huge catch with the one-off payment: the flat-rate energy price (EPP) has to be taxed by almost all affected employees – so often only a fraction of the 300 euros is left over. And from October, the new gas surcharge will make things even more difficult. This is intended to protect gas importers from insolvency, but in the process passes on the additional costs of the gas suppliers to the consumers.

How much money is left over from the taxed energy flat rate after the gas surcharge? Kreiszeitung.de offers an overview of the figures.

The amount of the new gas levy has not yet been finally decided, but according to Economics Minister Robert Habeck it will probably be between 1.5 and 5 cents per kilowatt hour. For a typical family with an annual consumption of around 20,000 kilowatt hours, this would lead to additional costs of up to 1190 euros per year.
