Fish deaths in the Oder: Several towns are affected by a warning from the integrated regional control center. It applies to humans and animals.
Frankfurt – Tons of fish, mussels and other molluscs have died in the Oder since August 9th. Now the environmental disaster leads to an official hazard notification, as initially reported by rbb Inforadio . Most recently, dead fish had again been increasingly localized in the German-Polish border river. Apparently the area of the Alte Oder, a puncture area of numerous arms of the Oder in Brandenburg, is particularly affected.
Fish deaths on the Oder: Official warning applies to several towns
On Sunday afternoon (September 4th), the integrated regional control center Northeast issued a warning that applies to several areas along the river. Because of possible water poisoning, people and animals are urged to stay away from the banks in the following towns:
- Angermunde
- Eberswalde
- Chorin
- Hohenfinow
- love
- Lunow-Stolzenhagen
- Niederfinow
- orberg
In the affected areas one should not fish and under no circumstances should dead fish be touched, it was said on Sunday afternoon.
The causes of the fish kill have been the subject of heated debate for weeks. “Water knows no borders and the consequences affect us all. That’s why it’s crucial for me personally that we, in Germany and in Poland, discuss the Oder together – not without or even against each other,” Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock recently warned.
