Last year Samsung had problems with the Galaxy Fold, its first folding smartphone, to the point that it had to delay its launch and cancel the pre-purchases that some users had made. It all came after several journalists and bloggers detected serious errors in the flexible screen . Thus, the Korean was forced to take a hiatus and spend several months repairing its errors in order to market it without incident.
In 2020 the nightmare seems to have returned for the manufacturer. Only a few days ago that the Asian firm presented during its Unpacked event the Galaxy Z Flip, its second folding phone, although the first in the shape of a shell, which was available for pre-sale just after its launch. However, some users who have purchased the terminal have reported errors within hours of starting to use it.
One of them is a customer named Amir, who bought it from Samsung UK. After opening the box and removing the protective film, this user proceeded to unfold it and watched, perplexed, how the screen broke in front of their noses, hearing a sound from the break. Could it be from too cold? In this case, Samsung acted quickly and changed the phone for a new one in just one day, according to an account on Twitter.
However, it has not been an isolated case. Quinn Nelson , who is dedicated to doing product reviews on the YouTube channel Snazzy Labs, has uploaded a video to the microblogging network where when opening the Galaxy Z Flip completely, it has a problem with the hinge and stops working.
It also fails in tests
The durability tests do n’t speak too highly of Samsung’s new foldable smartphone either. The tests carried out with the terminal show that, despite having “flexible glass”, its panel would scratch as easily as if it were plastic.
The youtuber Zack Nelson – with more than 5 million subscribers on his JerryRigEverything channel in which he tests different technologies – has been able to verify that the screen of the Z Flip is scratched “in exactly the same way in which a plastic screen would react.” The content creator says he doesn’t know “what material this is but definitely Samsung shouldn’t call it glass .”
Samsung has not been slow to comment on the matter and in a statement it defends that the device had a protective layer, although it had forgotten to communicate it, and had undergone exhaustive tests. “While the screen is bending, it must be handled with care,” he says.
The Razr does not fare well either
However, the Galaxy Z Flip has not been the only foldable smartphone to be criticized in recent days. Raymong Wong, review editor at Input web, has had a bad experience with the Motorola Razr , Lenovo’s proposal in this nascent segment. It ensures that the upper part of the screen has separated from the lower part, generating a large horizontal air bubble .
The worst thing is that the mess would have occurred without a specific reason. The problem arose after a 45-minute train ride with the Razr in his pocket. Opening it, he found it looking just like a misplaced screen protector. In addition, it was not a simple aesthetic issue, but the screen had lost its responsiveness.
