The self-proclaimed “driving license king” of Detmold is on the run. The businessman should actually serve a prison sentence.
Detmold – According to the Detmold public prosecutor’s office, the “driving license king” convicted of fraud by the Detmold district court in May 2020 did not appear when he was arrested. That is why an arrest warrant has now been issued, as a spokesman for the German Press Agency (dpa) said on Wednesday (October 12). The Lippische Landeszeitung had previously reported on the arrest warrant.
“Driver’s License King” convicted of 20 counts of fraud
The man became known nationwide because he had helped motorists thousands of times in other EU countries to get a replacement for driving licenses revoked in Germany. Despite payments made, however, many customers went away empty-handed.
After the appeal by the Federal Court of Justice (BGH), the Detmold Regional Court reduced the number of cases to three years and six months due to the partial statute of limitations, the dpa news agency reported in November 2021. In the appeal proceedings in July 2021, the BGH determined that some of the accused cases had already become statute-barred had been. Previously, the “driving license king of Detmold” had been sentenced to 4 years and 3 months in prison.
Before the trial in 2020, the busy businessman had presented himself to numerous media and TV cameras as a service provider for drivers. He felt unfairly persecuted by the public prosecutor’s office. As early as 2012, the European Court of Justice (ECJ) restricted driving license tourism by German traffic offenders.
Because the 54-year-old has moved his place of residence from East Westphalia to Lower Saxony, he should be imprisoned in Wolfenbüttel prison south of Braunschweig in September. (dpa/ml)
